SEND & 360 Virtual Tours

SEND at The Bourne Academy:

At The Bourne Academy our aim is to promote maximum achievement and attainment for all students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

In our last Ofsted inspection, it was noted that:

‘The school is a calm place to learn. Staff identify clearly the support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) require. Many parents of pupils with SEND told us that the school supports their children well. When pupils’ conduct falls below expectations, staff take effective action. Staff know their pupils well. Teachers support pupils when they are unsure about their learning. Teachers help pupils to make connections between what they already know and can do, their current learning, and what comes next. In such cases, teachers use a range of activities to help pupils to remember what they have learned. Consequently, pupils are confident to tackle more difficult work. Pupils learn about tolerance and respecting others.'

The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (DFeS 2001) states that:

‘A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.’
